I can cut out weeds from roots and manage invasive growth. I have ordered 3 so far to give as gifts to fellow gardeners. I use for planting my seedlings too.
I’ve regularly used this tool for years and just love it. I’m an avid gardener and also work on farms from time to time. I have the hori-hori clipped in to one side of my pants and an IRS by-pass pruner on my other side—both are standard tools I need to have on hand. They are great for digging out weeds, transplanting, quickly evening out soil that’s been worked, cutting through roots—many uses.
The serrated edge will wear down after some years and not work to cut through roots very well, but all other uses continue. The hour-hori is incredibly sharp on both sides when first purchased so use with care (and gloves).
The last hori-hori I purchased was a gift. Fellow gardeners always immensely appreciate this gift.
There are other brands out there but they are cheap imitations and I’ve seen those brands fall apart within a year of regular use.
I've been using this knife to help me clear out an overgrown, vine-filled section of forest edge. It's sharp as heck and does a great job with the wet roots that my shears struggled with, and being able to use it for digging too has helped a lot.
